Making Memories
Comfort Food. Almost always it evokes childhood memories, days of family, friends and the sanctuary of hearth and home.
Classic comfort foods may vary by region and culture, but we instinctively turn to old favourites; dishes that our mothers or grandmothers produced with regularity, and often without a written recipe but learned by heart and passed down the generations. Just a whiff of a particular ingredient can bring back a rush of nostalgia.
The tantalizing hint of a simmering pot of soup, a platter of warm pastries waiting on the counter, or sitting down to a heaping plate of mac and cheese; there is no doubt that these foods are forever linked to some of our fondest memories. Whether it’s the pleasure of cooking and preparing food for our families or celebrating a special occasion, we constantly turn to our best-loved comfort foods.
Now it’s our opportunity to start some new favourites for the next generation, so that years from now our children can say,”Remember that dish that Mum used to make?”.
